Medical Acupuncture and Dry Needling

Both medical acupuncture and dry needing are an ideal form of alternative therapy when recovering from tension, muscular pain or a back injury. They can provide long lasting relief from pain, especially when a tailored course of treatment is undertaken.

While the two treatments are similar, there are differences that make them better suited to treating different sort of ailments.

Acupuncture at our Hillingdon Practice

At The health Lodge, we can carry out acupuncture to help relieve your pain. Acupuncture works by using very fine needles which are inserted into what are known as acupuncture points, which relate to where the pain is coming from. These tiny needles stimulate the sensory nerves under the skin which causes the body to release natural pain-relieving chemicals, such as endorphins, which work to relieve your aches and pains.

Sometimes the body holds onto pain and tension without realising that there is a problem and stimulating these points wakes the body up to a problem that needs tending to. The needles used are so delicate that this treatment is almost completely pain-less and you can’t feel them once they are in the muscle.

Acupuncture is ideal for treating:

  • Dental pain
  • Tension headaches
  • Migraine
  • Joint pain
  • Postoperative pain

Our Dry Needling Procedure

Dry needling is very similar in the sense that it uses needles to stimulate the sensory nerves but instead uses thicker needles that are inserted into the body’s meridians and trigger points which are associated with the different internal organs. This form of treatment is better suited to those who are suffering from chronic internalised pain and less localised blockages such as:

  • Digestive problems
  • Insomnia
  • Stress
  • Chronic pain

Here at The Health Lodge we offer both acupuncture and dry needling treatment as part of our alternative pain relief programmes. With fully trained therapeutic practitioners, we are dedicated to offering our clients the very best quality of care when treating pain.
